Human Patient Simulator welcomes the public at
nursing program's open house

Sacramento State's Division of Nursing is holding its first Annual Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 22 at El Dorado Hall. The public is invited to tour the nursing building, meet with nursing faculty and students and attend demonstrations in the nursing skills laboratory.

Pre-nursing advising sessions will be held at 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

Among the day's activities will be demonstrations of the Human Patient Simulators. At the forefront of advanced instructional technology, these simulators can produce breath sounds and heart tones and allow students to practice taking blood pressures and pulses. Specialized simulators replicate adult and infant emergencies, enabling students to better handle real, life-threatening clinical situations.

Sacramento State recognizes that there is a growing shortage of nurses in our community. In order to address this shortage, the nursing program has doubled in size over the last 5 years. With expansion of the program, the University has identified 1,000 pre-nursing students on campus, as well as hundreds of community college students, who are actively completing prerequisite nursing courses in preparation for a nursing major. This open house is designed to help prospective nursing students learn more about the bachelor's program at Sacramento State and experience some of the exciting new technological advances available in the nursing skills laboratory.

For more information about the open house, contact Sacramento State's Division of Nursing at (916) 278-6525. For information about the Division of Nursing at Sacramento State, visit
