Free jazz and chamber music performances will be held as part of Sacramento State’s summer camp programs.
Jazz, big bands, chamber music—it’s all available at Sacramento State and it’s free. The University’s summer music camps not only offer students a chance to hone their skills, they provide a number of concerts and performances the public can enjoy without digging into their wallets.

Jazz aficionados can cut a rug to the sounds of the Jim Widner Big Band as part of the jazz camp. Concerts will be held at 8 p.m. July 8, 9, 10 and 12. A student combo will perform at 7 p.m., July 11 and a closing concert featuring the band and students kicks off at 7 p.m., July 13. All the concerts are in the recital room of Capistrano Hall.

Those who like their music on the classical side are invited to listen in on concerts performed by students of the CalCap Chamber Music Workshop, which runs July 22-28 and July 29 through Aug. 3. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday performances are at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday concerts are held at 3 p.m. and Friday concerts begin at 4 p.m. The performances will be held in Room 151 of Capistrano Hall.

More information on the summer camps is available at or by calling the music department at (916) 278-5155. For media assistance, call the Sacramento State Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156.
