Breakfast Club serves up fourth season

With the beginning of the academic year comes Sacramento State's Alumni Association Breakfast Club Speaker Series. The lectures this year will cover a wide spectrum of themes, from commerce to government to the arts, all from local speakers. The discussion-based format allows audience members to interact with speakers and voice their opinions about the headlines and concerns in the community. Each talk begins at 7:30 a.m. and will include free breakfast for Alumni Association members. Non-member breakfast is $20.

The series begins on Tuesday, Sept. 27 with real estate developer and Sacramento State alumnus John Saca. He will be presenting "What's 'Up" with Sacramento's Skyline?" about the proposals in the pipeline that will change the face of downtown Sacramento, most notably with his 53-story Twin Towers at the Capitol Mall.

The series continues on Tuesday, Dec. 6 with another Sacramento State alumnus, Public Policy and Administration professor Bob Waste. Waste's talk will focus on "Gold Rush Park: An Urban Wilderness" and the plans for one of the largest parks in the nation. It calls for major development along the American River's south bank with expanses of greenspace and attractions designed to draw visitors from all over the world.

On Wednesday, March 8, the association will present Maggie Mejia, the new superintendent of the Sacramento City Unified School District. She will talk on the many challenges she is facing in her new position and discuss her vision for this complex and diverse school district. The heart of her talk will be how she is leading the way for "Positive Changes in our City Schools."

A fourth speaker is set for May, and details will be announced at a later date. Seating for each talk is limited and reserving a spot is recommended. For more information or to RSVP, contact the Alumni Center at (916) 278-6295 or log on to
