Ethics lecture looks at the right
side of doing the wrong thing

Knowing right from wrong is one thing; choosing the right path is another. That will be the topic of discussion when Professor Becky Cox White of California State University, Chico presents a lecture titled, Moral Reasoning and Problem Solving, 2-5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19th, in the University Union’s Orchard Suite.

White, who holds a doctorate in philosophy and is a professor of philosophy and bioethics, will describe the systematic methods people use to resolve moral dilemmas, then will present a case to the audience to be resolved. 

White, who is also a registered nurse, is a specialist in ethical theory and biomedical ethics. She developed her interest in those areas while working as a critical care nurse. She has published a number of books and articles on has published a numerous articles in the areas of informed consent, the role of professional integrity in health care allocation, aid-in-dying, and moral decision making

The lecture is free and open to the public. It is presented by Sacramento State’s Center for Practical and Professional Ethics. The center was founded in 2005 by the Philosophy department as a complement to the department’s teaching and scholarly focus on ethics. The lecture is sponsored by the faculty Senate and the Center for Teaching through their Visiting Scholar’s Program.
