CSUS Names Arellanes to Diversity Post

California State University, Sacramento President Donald R. Gerth has named Robert Vega Arellanes special assistant to the President for diversity and pluralism.

For 16 years, Arellanes was dean of Regional and Continuing Education for the University. He also held positions as coordinator of the Ethnic Studies Center, dean of Academic Planning and professor of economics.

Arellanes also has been active in the local community, serving on the board of directors of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, as president and charter member of the Jinan Sacramento Sisters Cities Corporation, and as a board member of the Matsuyama Sacramento Sister Cities Corporation.

Prior to his 27 years at CSUS, Arellanes was regional director of the Peace Corps and an urban and housing specialist for the Organization of American States.
