Sacramento State will wrap up its yearlong study of power in all its forms with the two-day One World 2016 Year-End Celebration.

Each year, the One World program presents a different topic that students and faculty from all disciplines can explore from many perspectives. This year’s subject is power, which can be manifested in engineering, physics, political science, economics, and many other areas.

The Year-End Celebration will be held April 4-5 with keynote speaker Michael Klare stepping to the podium at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in the University Union, Hinde Auditorium. Klare is a writer, teacher, and public speaker who studies issues of war and peace, resource competition, and international affairs. He teaches courses on resource politics, contemporary conflict, and world affairs at Hampshire College, and has written 14 books and hundreds of essays on the topics. His talk is titled “Power Politics and the Politics of Power.”

The events also include a faculty panel: “What We Think About When We Think About Power.” That will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Union, Redwood Room. Faculty panelists are Robert Metcalf (Biology), Lisa Hammersley (Geology), Paula Austin (History), and Todd Migliaccio (Sociology).

A Student Symposium on Power will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 5, in the Union’s Orchard and Forest suites. During this event, students from across campus will offer their perspectives on power through oral presentations, posters, and exhibits.
