Even though the campus is barely into this semester, Sacramento State and the 22 other California State University (CSU) campuses will start taking applications for admission to the Fall 2018 term beginning Oct. 1.

Students interested in attending Sac State or any of the CSU campuses can apply online at the CSU’s new application portal: Cal State Apply. The priority application period will close on Nov. 30, 2017. Most CSU campuses will stop accepting applications after that date.

The new portal allows students to apply to multiple CSU campuses with just one easy application. Cal State Apply was launched earlier this year and provides a streamlined, user-friendly application for all CSU incoming freshman, transfer, graduate and international students.

“We are excited about the new features that Cal State Apply offers to our applicants,” says Don Hunt, Sacramento State’s assistant vice president for Enrollment and Student Services. “The additional information and features provided by the new application portal will help students provide the information we need and help us better communicate with our applicants.”

Nearly 41,000 students applied to Sacramento State last year, and demand for the University continues to increase.

“It’s more important than ever for students to apply early during our priority filing period starting Oct. 1,” says Hunt. “After Nov. 30, we will stop accepting applications for fall 2018.”

In addition to allowing one submission to serve the application needs of multiple CSU campuses, Cal State Apply also:

  • Incorporates the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) application, eliminating the need to file a separate EOP application.
  • Automatically calculates the overall GPA for first-time freshman applicants.
  • Shares ACT and SAT test scores with all CSU campuses to which an applicant applies.

Transfer students also will benefit since Cal State Apply allows them to enter all of their completed course work by term. In addition, beginning with fall 2018 applications, transfer applicants will be able to update their application in January with fall grades and include their current spring courses.

Veterans of the U.S. military applying to a CSU campus will be able to upload their Report of Transfer of Discharge (DD214) paperwork via Cal State Apply.

The Cal State Apply website is the best place for prospective students and their parents to learn about the CSU’s offerings. It features a database detailing undergraduate and graduate degrees at all 23 campuses and includes information about the campus community, student housing, and campus life.

After applying to the CSU through Cal State Apply, students should visit Sacramento State’s Financial Aid website to learn about applying for financial aid. More than 70 percent of Sacramento State students receive some type of financial aid, and more than half of the undergraduates receive enough financial aid to cover the full cost of tuition. – Craig Koscho
