Mall Event Seeks to Scare Up Interest in Chemistry

Halloween has its frightening moments, but what really scares some educators is the lack of interest in science among American students.

That's why the California State University, Sacramento chemistry club is hosting hands-on chemistry activities for kids at Sunrise Mall, Saturday, Oct. 30. The colorful, slimy and occasionally gross activities will last all day. In the spirit of the weekend, steaming caldrons and other Halloween mainstays will be featured.

Chemistry Day at Sunrise Mall is a free event presented each year by CSUS faculty and students, often with help from high school teachers and students. It's held in anticipation of Chemistry Week, which this year is Nov. 7-13.
