Ambassador to Discuss
U.S. - Greek Relations

U.S. Ambassador to Greece Nicholas Burns will speak at California State University, Sacramento at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 in the University Union Forest Suite. He will discuss "U.S. - Greek Relations, The Balkans and Southeastern Europe."

Burns' visit is co-sponsored by the Speros Basil Vryonis Center for the Study of Hellenism and the University.

Burns was spokesperson for the State Department under both Madeleine Albright and Warren Christopher from 1995 to 1997. He also spent five years on the National Security Council staff at the White House as special assistant to President Bill Clinton and senior director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia affairs.

Under President George Bush, Burns was director of Soviet (later Russian) affairs. He also served as Bush's advisor on Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.
