Professor Featured At Prestigious Art Event

California State University, Sacramento ethnic studies professor Frank LaPena is among the distinguished Native American artists featured at the 1999 Venice Biennale Exhibition.

The Native American exhibit, called Ceremonial, is the first group show at the historic Biennale presented by Native Americans on behalf of their sovereign nations. It focuses on cultural experiences of tradition, pain, alienation and survival.

In addition to LaPena, the exhibit will include poet Simon Ortiz; singer, songwriter and artist Buffy Sainte-Marie; and artists Harry Fonseca, Bob Haozous, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Richard Glazer-Danay, Kay WalkingStick and Richard Ray Whitman.
