Families Invited to Orchestra, Dance and Puppet Performance

California State University, Sacramento's popular family presentation Niam: Portrait of a Gnome returns during the weeklong Festival of the Arts (April 1 - 9).

The free theatrical performance includes symphonic music, puppetry, dance and storytelling. Performances are at 1 and 3 p.m., Sunday, April 9 in the Musical Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall.

The 70-piece CSUS Symphony Orchestra will perform onstage to "Pictures at an Exhibition" by composer Modest Mussorgsky. CSUS professor Deborah Pittman's fairy tale-like story will be read by CSUS professor Claudia Kitka. The presentation includes CSUS professor Richard Bay's illuminated puppetry and CSUS professor Linda Goodrich's Sacramento Black Art of Dance troupe.

Niam: Portrait of a Gnome debuted last fall to three separate full houses and is part of the University's ongoing family concert series. Free parking will be available prior to the concert in the nearby parking garage on campus at University Drive West and Sinclaire Road.
