Why I'm Involved with C2S

I know how hard it is to be a student and at times, we doubt what we're capable of. I want to empower students by teaching them to learn and grow from their mistakes. Succeeding and graduating can be a collaborative effort and there is no shame in that.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

Because I wanted to help my fellow peers successfully complete their classes and graduate on time by sharing my experiences. I believe that every student has the ability to pass their classes with the necessary resources that Commit to Study can provide.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

I want students to know that they're not alone while navigating college. As long as they are open to seeking help, they will receive it. Learning and having a growth mindset can help them achieve whatever they wish to achieve. Lastly, I believe that weak study skills have the potential to become strong study skills. I want to help students cultivate those weak study skills into strong ones.

Advice for Students

"Remember this will all pay off. Picture what you want the end of your college journey to look like. Then work hard to paint that picture. Keep in mind that the path to success is not a vector. It's tangled and complex but most importantly, it is your path. So it is supposed to be different.

My Long Term Goals

The purpose of our lives is to be happy.

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Biomedical Sciences, Minors in Chemistry and Psychology (Graduated Spring 2017)

Why I'm Involved with C2S

This program gives students the ability to engage with others that have taken the difficult courses that are to come, all while balancing the extracurriculars and have succeeded. When I started with this academic journey I wish I had someone there, speaking from personal experience, helping me navigate my courses and academic decisions.

Advice for Students

Don't ever let any other students, professors, courses or exams define who you are. You will have difficulties to overcome and find what works best for you, but it's important to learn from them and not become discouraged.

My Long Term Goals

To do pediatric endocrinology specializing in diabetes.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

As a student who has taken longer than the tradition 4-year college route, I have experiences a lot of ups and downs throughout my undergraduate years. I want to help students attain their goals and help them to be the best student they can possibly be in order to do so. Commit to Study gives students the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and how to overcome setback. Succeeding and graduting can be a collaborative effort and there is no shame in that.

Advice for Students

The only person you are competing with is yourself, avoid comparing yourself to others and do your abolsute best to find what works best for you as a student. Life can throw many curveballs and it is not about what life throws at you, but how you react and grow from it.

My Long Term Goals

To become a physician (currently interested in pediatrics) and be able to work in refugee camps around the world and help populations with limited access to healthcare.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

I am involved with the Commit to Study because it can help me interact with people who are in a position where I have been and may need help exploring their options. I want to work with C2S so that we can make the transition of being a student much easier. At the end of the we are all in this together and at times we need someone to listen to us and lend hand or point us towards the right direction.

Advice for Students

A piece of advice I would like to share with other fellow students is, no matter how bad something goes or how difficult school may feel at times. Always remember that there only 24 hours in a day, and the day must end and another day begin. This was told to me by my older brother when I was in high school, and I always remember it to help me to continue in anything I set my mind to.

My Long Term Goals

I have always dreamed of becoming a medical doctor as an anthesiologist or pediatrician. I also enjoy mathematics and would also like to be able to use that to keep people safe someday by working along with the Center of Disease Control and Prevention.

Major

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Microbiology

Why I'm Involved with C2S

Being a STEM major is difficult, and everyone struggles with it at some point. We have the tendency to think that we must do everything ourselves without any help, but that’s not true. The Commit to Study program is a great way for students to help students, and I want to utilize what I’ve learned over the course of my undergraduate career to help other students improve their study skills and learn how to succeed on their own.

Advice for Students

Take time for yourself during the semester. It’s so easy to get stressed out about deadlines and the weight of all your assignments, but panicking about it will just decrease your ability to concentrate and finish your tasks. Every couple weeks, stop thinking about classes for a while and do something that you enjoy – even a few hours will help.

My Long Term Goals

I plan on obtaining a PhD in Microbiology, and intend to use those skills to contribute to research on the contributions of microbial populations to the ecological makeup of environments as well as work on improving conversations between scientists and the general population.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

I have been that student that has struggled in class, so I know what it feels like to not be on top of everything, but I have also learned that with time, and patience, anything is attainable if you set your mind to it. I would like to share my experiences with other students and help them see that nothing is impossible and that you can attain anything with a little bit of hard work.

Advice for Students

Take everything one day at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself with deadlines. Spread all your work out, and accomplish a little bit everyday. You can’t do everything all at once.

My Long Term Goals

To become a pharmacist.

Why I'm Involved with C2S

In doing C2S, not only would I be able to help my fellow peers with their school work but I would also gain an insight to improving my own work ethic. This program will allow me to help further develop my communication and leadership skills which are essential my goals of becoming a mathematics teacher for high school students.

Advice for Students

Always be a little open minded and a little skeptical when first being introduced to something.

My Long Term Goals

To become a math teacher for high school students and help them understand that mathematics is more than just about numbers.
