Northern California World Trade Center - Intern

Description:

The NCWTC’s internship program is designed to allow student interns to learn about the dynamics of international trade by interacting with international business professionals, conducting market research and observing and participating in the daily operations of a non-profit international trade promotion organization. The goal of the program is to enable interns to build upon their educational background, enabling them to gain valuable real-world experience in international business.

 

At the NCWTC, we also encourage students to explore and develop their academic interests through this internship program. Interns are welcome to self-design a research project that is related to their area of interest to submit for coursework credit. Please check with your advisor to see if you can receive school credit for your time at the NCWTC.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Assist with the coordination of international trade events and educational programs

· Organize professional programs for foreign delegations and dignitaries.

· Type Visa invitation letters for Chinese delegations.

· Provide up-to-date market research for client companies

· Process NCWTC membership applications and promote membership sales

· Contribute to the production of the NCWTC Quarterly Newsletter

· Update NCWTC website content

· Work on special projects for the Program Manager and Executive Director

· Assist staff with some administrative duties

Qualifications:

  • -Commitment of two quarters/one semester. Minimum of 12 hours a week.
  • -Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • -Junior, senior or graduate level students
  • -A major in one of the following fields preferred: Political Science, International Relations, Government, -International Business, or Economics
  • -Strong research ability
  • -Above average organizational and time-management skills.
  • -Enthusiastic and eager to learn
  • -Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • -Foreign language skills are a plus. Mandarin speakers strongly desired.
  • -Computer skills: MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, FrontPage (not required)

The US Commercial Service has over 100 offices in the United States and over 150 overseas. Our goal is to promote the growth of U.S. trade and a global basis through the development and delivery of marketing and promotion services to American manufacturers, distributors and service providers.

 

We offer students a year-round volunteer internship program to gain invaluable practical business experience in the field of international trade. A keen ability to understand the international business environment and global geography is essential. Foreign travel, studies and language add important dimensions to applicants. This office is highly automated with access to international databases, the internet and an advanced telecommunications network. Numerous opportunities will be available to interact with California businesses. After successful completion of the internship, one may be nominated to intern at an overseas’ post.

 

Daily Intern Activities:

International Trade Interns become involved in the daily operational aspects of managing a high-activity office. Projects range from coordinating market research to counseling foreign buyers seeking U.S. sources of products and services. Interns support the director and trade specialists with planning international strategies for Northern California businesses. Interns will also assist with trade seminar development, trade show certification and current international projects, as well as assist walk-in visitors, handle telephone calls, light clerical and administrative support duties. The interns will also learn to use and manage the U.S. Commercial Service’s commercial information database and intranet systems. The systems’ highly detailed economic trend and market analysis helps exporters identify and asses their potential overseas markets. Once interns have experience, they also will have the opportunity to develop export marketing and sales strategies with the goal of identifying established channels of distribution and penetrating new world markets with local businesses.

We offer our students the possibility to attend a 6-month internship, 16 hours a week. Interns will play an active role in our organization, making Marketing Research, attending Trade Shows, and participating to Seminars and Workshops.

 

In the past 10 years more then 100 students have improved their international trade knowledge, contributed to the development of CITD, and helped local businesses become more global.

Qualifications:

Students must be U.S. Citizens. International trade interns are chosen through a highly selective process. The minimum time commitment for the U.S. Export Assistance Center is six (6) months with 16 hours per week. Finally, with successful completion of the domestic U.S. internship program, top interns may be nominated to apply for internships at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.

Amelia Island Plantation - Staff Development

Description:

The intern will assist with the recruitment and orientation process for employees, interns and international staff. Employee recognition programs and benefits open enrollment activities occur year-round, however are heaviest during the fall term.

The concentration of some activities will vary by the season. Human Resources/Staff Development Intern Activities

1. Learn the various departmental policies, systems, and procedures for the Employment, Benefits and Staff Development departments.

2. Assist the Employment and Recruitment Department with preparing for and attending job fairs.

3. Schedule interviews and distribute applications.

4. Assist the Benefits Department with open enrollment events.

5. Assist with community support programs such as United Way, Communities in Schools, Nassau Volunteer Center, Relay for Life and other charitable programs.

6. Assist with the promotion, implementation and event planning for recognition programs including ‘Sky High’, ‘Thanks-a-Million’, Pin Parties

7. Assist with of recognition programs (flyers, employee newsletter, updates at the Employee Cafeteria, etc.)

8. Assist with safety compliance programs including inspections and other follow-up and tracking.

9. Participate in and assist with training classes.

10. Research, prepare, and present assigned projects.

14. Perform other duties as assigned. The intern may be subject to indoor and outdoor environmental changes and conditions.
