Baseball camp for area youth returns


Former baseball professionals and Sacramento State coaches and players will be on hand to give tips during the youth baseball camp Saturday, Aug. 28.

Area youth can learn baseball tips from former professionals and Sacramento State coaches and players during the fourth annual New Faze Youth Baseball Camp, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Sac State baseball field. Check-in time is 8 a.m.

The camp is free but limited to 150 youth ages 8-18. Participants will receive a free lunch and sports bottle.

Instructors include former Milwaukee Brewers slugger Greg Vaughn, former St. Louis Cardinals infielder Fernando Vina, former Philadelphia Phillies player Ricky Jordan, former Houston Astros outfielder James Mouton and former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lloyd Moseby.

The baseball camp, co-sponsored by New Faze Development, was started in 2007. New Faze president Allen Warren played several years in the New York Yankees farm system. The program will be directed by Quinn Gregory, a former minor leaguer.

Players will receive instructions on pitching, hitting, fielding and base running. The morning and afternoon sessions will emphasize various techniques geared to specific skill levels.
