Sacramento State holds commencement


More than 4,000 Sac State students received their diplomas at the Winter Commencement.

Tears, laughter, a little trepidation and a lot of celebrating took center stage when about 4,090 Sacramento State students received their diplomas during Winter Commencement ceremonies at Arco Arena, Friday, Dec. 17 and Saturday, Dec. 18.

The two days of ceremonies encompassed the University’s seven colleges.
Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez told graduates that they “are the hope and the promise for the future.”

“History has shown that the best way to re-energize the economy is by producing an educated and talented work force,” he said. “In essence, all of you, with your creativity, determination, and Sacramento State degrees are our best economic stimulus.”

Each ceremony also featured Sacramento State’s traditional recognition of those who are the first in their family to graduate from college.
