Dixon named Outstanding Professor of the Year

Virginia L. Dixon, professor of Educational Leadership and Policies, has been named Outstanding Professor of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators, Region 3. She will be honored at the ACSA awards banquet Tuesday, May 17, at the Sacramento Hilton.

Dixon, who served as associate dean for six years, also has extensive experience in educational and organizational development. She began her education career with an eight-year stint as a teacher in Harlem with the New York City Board of Education. She received her doctorate from Columbia University and since 1990 has done international educational work with China as a specialty.

She was selected by the Carter Center as one of seven professionals from the United States that year to train 45 principals of schools for youth with disabilities in China as part of the center’s Project Global 2000. She has continued this work and sponsored two Chinese colleagues as Visiting Scholars at Sacramento State.
