Ron Coleman, Biological Sciences, gave the keynote address at the fifth annual Dinner with a Scientist event held at the University of California, Merced on March 24.

Jason Gieger, English, attended the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies annual meeting in Vancouver, BC, March 17-20, where he participated in a roundtable on 18th-century moral reform and whether or not the Jeremy Collier stage controversy of the 1690s had any lasting impact. Gieger also presented in January at the 126th annual Modern Language Association convention in Los Angeles where his paper, "Memory, Anecdote, and the Forgotten History of the Restoration Comedy of Manners" similarly examined how, why, and when literary history gets written (and what gets lost).

Jamie Kneitel, associate professor, and Russell Croel, graduate student, of the Department of Biological Sciences, published the article "Ecosystem-level effects of bioturbation by the tadpole shrimp Lepidurus packardi in temporary pond mesocosms" in the journal Hydrobiologia.

The Association of California School Administrators, Region 3, has named Virginia L. Dixon its 2011 Outstanding Professor of the Year award winner. Dixon, a member of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, will be honored at the ACSA awards banquet at the Hilton Hotel on May 17.
