Sac State grads exhibit their artworks

Sacramento State’s graduating class is exhibiting new works encompassing all disciplines covered by the Studio Art Program. The free Senior Art Show will run through May 20 at the Else and Witt galleries in Kadema Hall. Gallery hours are noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Each year, the exhibition gets better and better,” says faculty exhibition co-coordinator Sarah Flohr. “This year, we have a committee of student curators who are sure to put together an exciting group of work from all the graduating seniors.”

After graduation, many of the students will go on to become a part of Sacramento’s growing arts community. “This exhibition gives Sacramento a sneak peak at what will be shown in the galleries around town and beyond in the years to come,” says faculty exhibition co-coordinator Robert Ortbal.

At the same time graduating seniors are displaying their wares, the graduating master’s degree students are holding their annual art exhibit in the Library Gallery Annex through May 28. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Receptions for both shows will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, as part of the University’s Art Ball.

The Art Department at Sacramento State offers programs in Studio Art, Art Education and Art History. All 10 of the full-time Studio Art faculty are professional exhibiting artists, representing a wide variety of disciplines, including painting and drawing, as well as sculpture, electronic art, metal and jewelry making, ceramics, photography and printmaking.
