Faculty, staff invited to show their talent

It’s time for Sacramento State’s creative faculty and staff to get out the paintbrushes, finish that poem, start knitting or tune up the guitar for Sac State Has Talent, the Library Gallery’s Spring 2012 show.

Gallery Director Phil Hitchcock invites University employees who have any kind of talent (excluding those from the Art and Design departments) to take part in the show that runs March 8 through May 18, 2012.

Submission forms are available from the Library Gallery. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1.

“We wanted an exhibition that involved this entire campus,” Hitchcock says.

And when it comes to talent, Hitchcock is open to whatever artistic aptitudes are out there. Those include, but are not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, music, poetry, dance, puppetry, quilting, textiles, welding, woodcarving, film, writing, photography and jewelry.

The exhibit is timed to coincide with the University’s annual spring Festival of the Arts, providing the opportunity for faculty and staff to showcase their talents and enhance the four-day Festival.

The Dec. 1 deadline is designed as a means to reserve a space during the show. Actual art pieces would need to be delivered in late February 2012. Performing artists will be given a time for a concert in the Library Gallery.

Hitchcock says he and his student curators were encouraged to do the show after learning how many staff and faculty have after-hour talents, whether painting, writing poetry or playing in bands.
