Sac State grad gets key government post


Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Willie Armstrong, a graduate of Sacramento State’s Doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Program, as undersecretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency.

He is principal advisor to the secretary on major policy, program, legislation and fiscal matters. He’s also responsible for all office functions and discharges all statutory functions of the agency’s departments.

Armstrong, who was part of the doctoral program’s first class, served several state lawmakers in various capacities for the last eight years. Prior to enrolling in the program, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Europe for 10 years. During his military service, he earned his M.P.A. (Public Administration) and B.A. in Management Studies from the University of Maryland European Division.
