The Capital Fellows Programs at Sacramento State have done it again: They have been named one of the nation’s top 10 internship programs for the third year in a row by, the website of employer profiles and rankings, industry blogs and education information.

Managed by the Center for California Studies, Capital Fellows places college graduates in full-time staff positions in the state Legislature, the executive branch and the court system.

Vault reviewed 836 programs this year, placing Capital Fellows on the short list that includes companies such as J.P. Morgan’s Investment Bank, Nickelodeon Animation Studios and Southwest Airlines.

One participant who responded to Vault’s survey said the programs were “a phenomenal learning and working experience,” while another said “networking opportunities were incredible.”

“Capital Fellows make an important contribution to state government, not only during their internships, but subsequently when they take what they’ve learned to their various careers in public and private sectors throughout California and the country,” says Sacramento State interim Provost Charles Gossett.

Fellows work 10 to 11 months in one of 64 positions. They are typically given assignments with significant responsibility and challenges, and earn a monthly stipend of $1,972 with health benefits. They also receive graduate units from the Sacramento State Government Department of the Public Policy and Administration Program.

“One sign of the programs success is the high percentage of fellows who are asked to stay on as permanent employees after their fellowships have ended,” says Steve Boilard, executive director of the Center for California Studies. “The programs are deliberately structured to blend rigorous training with relevant real-world experiences in all aspects of state government.”

“The Capital Fellows Programs reflect all of the hallmarks of Sacramento State,” says Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez. “By combining world-class faculty and mentoring with unparalleled partnerships in state government, Sacramento State can offer students a unique and rewarding experience.”
