Diego Bonilla, Communications Studies, will give two presentations at the 16th annual CSU Teaching Symposium, “Teaching for High Impact: Deep and Engaged Learning,” which will take place at California Maritime Academy on Saturday, Feb. 23. The first presentation is titled “Curriculum for an Information and Communications Technology Literacy Program for Higher Education.” In this presentation, Dr. Bonilla will address the learning objectives of the six courses that compose Sacramento State’s new Digital Communication and Information minor. The second presentation, “Developing Strategies for Real-Time Online Teaching Environments,” will cover instructional methods like crowd-sourcing and collaborative learning techniques in synchronous environments like Blackboard Collaborate. Dr. Bonilla has worked as a mentor for CTL’s Teaching Institute for more than six years, and has served as the Teaching Institute coordinator on two occasions.

Tom Knutson, Communication Studies, is in Thailand making arrangements for Sacramento State graduates to serve as English language tutors at the Chitralada Royal Palace School. More than 30 people from Sacramento have participated in the program since its inception in 2006. Applications for the 2013-2014 program are available from Professor Knutson at Professor Knutson is also conducting a seminar in negotiation strategies at Bangkok University and has been consulting with the Research Center of Communication and Development Knowledge Management at the Sukhothai Thammathirat University in Bangkok. He continues his research in Thailand on intercultural communication competence.
