Sacramento State names new University Library dean

Amy Kautzman has been appointed the new dean of Sacramento State’s University Library effective Monday, March 2. Kautzman currently serves as the associate university librarian, Academic Services, at the University of California, Davis.

She was selected through a national search with a strong pool of applicants. Prior to her current position, she was the associate university librarian, Humanities and Social Services, and acting head of Access Services at UC Davis. Before she joined the UC Davis Library, she served as department head for Research, Reference and Collections at the University Library at UC Berkeley.

She also has held senior librarian positions at Harvard College Library; Harvard University; Cambridge; and at the University Library, Northeastern College, Boston.

Kautzman is a prolific scholar/librarian with numerous publications and conference presentations, and she has substantial experience leading and managing academic services from the library that support research, teaching, learning, access and special collections services. Her strong national experience also includes leading library reorganization efforts that link libraries to campus strategic goals for student success.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in literature from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus, Minneapolis; her master’s degree in library science from Simmons College, Boston; and a master’s degree in literature from Northeastern University, Boston.

The announcement of Kautzman’s appointment was made by Frederika “Fraka” Harmsen, Sacramento State’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, in concurrence with President Alexander Gonzalez.
