Advising And Retention

The Department of Sociology is committed to student retention and the reduction of barriers to student success. We work to ensure that our students’ progress from admission through graduation is efficient and successful, and we seek to foster close connections between our students and their peers, as well as individual faculty members.

All Sociology majors are requested to meet in person with an academic advisor at least once per semester.

Each semester, a team of faculty conduct academic advising for our majors, minors, and students interested in the field of Sociology.  During the Spring 2019 semester, the following faculty serve on the advising team:  Dr. Bohsiu Wu (Department Chair), Dr. Ellen Berg, Dr. Anne Luna-Gordinier, Dr. Judson Landis, and Dr. Wehr. Dr. Charles Varano is in charge of student internships and is available for advising regarding undergraduate internship.

Below is our advising calendar for drop-in hours, and students may check in at the department office (Amador Hall 450) at any time during these hours to be directed to the scheduled faculty advisors.
