Reinstatement

There are two types of petitions for reinstatement: “Reinstatement after Disqualification” (only for students who have not been enrolled for two or more semesters) and “Readmission after Dismissal”. The petitioning process for both disqualified and dismissed students requires the submission of a written statement addressing the following:

  1. problems that lead to disqualification/dismissal;
  2. describe specific changes made to resolve these problems;
  3. reason for choosing intended major.

Fall 2021 Reinstatement after Disqualification

The petition for Fall 2021 reinstatement should be available after June 1, 2021

Fall 2020 Disqualified students are granted an “Automatic Reinstatement” for Spring 2021.

Fall 2020 disqualified students, enrolled for Spring 2021, must meet the following conditions to avoid academic dismissal:

  • Minimum 2.0 term GPA; must pass all classes
  • Limit 14 units (minimum 28 hours of study time per week)
  • Work less hours or take less units

Who needs to submit a petition?

Students disqualified prior to Fall 2020 seeking Fall 2021 reinstatement must have submitted a Fall 2021 admission application by the January 8, 2021 deadline. Only students who applied for admission on-time will have access to the “Reinstatement after Disqualification” petition.

Eligibility requirements:

  • 60 units (junior standing)
  • Successful completion (C- or better) of Admission requirements A1-Oral Communication; A2-Written Communication; A3-Critical Thinking; and B4-Quantitative Reasoning (math)
  • Completion of all possible lower-division coursework (General Education and major prerequisites)
  • all requirements must be completed by Spring 2021 to be eligible for Fall 2021 reinstatement
  • a non-impacted major
  • submit “Reinstatement after Disqualification” petition (available online via this website after June 1, 2021)

Spring 2022 Readmission after Dismissal

Students who have been dismissed can petition for Spring “Readmission after Dismissal” during the month of August (August 1 to August 31). There are two steps in the dismissal petitioning process:

  1. Submit a Spring 2022 admission application on the Cal State Website
  2. Submit a “Readmission after Dismissal” petition (petitions will be available on this website beginning August 1, 2021)

The deadline to submit both the petition and the application for admission is August 31, 2022.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Successful completion (C- or better) of General Education Areas A1-Oral Communication; A2-Written Communication; A3-Critical Thinking; and B4-Quantitative Reasoning (math)
  • Completion of all possible lower-division coursework (General Education and major prerequisites)
  • Students Dismissed Fall 2020 and earlier must meet the above requirements and have 60 units (junior standing)
  • All requirements completed by Summer 2021 to be eligible for Spring 2022 reinstatement
  • non-impacted major
