Out of the Darkness Campus Experience
Join Sacramento State’s Active Minds Chapter, Student Health and Counseling Services, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater Sacramento Chapter for the 10th Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Suicide Prevention Experience on April 15, 2021, at 5:30 pm.
The event theme for this year is Hornet Family, Apart but Not Alone. With the recent global events, it is important now more than ever to bring light to the conversations of suicide prevention and mental health support. By registering, you are showing support for survivors, students at risk, and those who have been affected by suicide. Mental health is an extremely important factor in the success of our students, faculty, and staff and we hope you will continue to support the cause through this event from afar.
Due to the COVID-19 prevention recommendations, the 10th Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Experience event has been moved to a virtual platform and will be held online through social media weekly challenges starting in February and through the Sac State and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention team registration website.
Participants can register as a Virtual Walker and join along between now and April 15, 2021, to support suicide prevention. Here are the steps to join:
- Register a team of 10 or more by March 1, 2021, to receive your department or team logo on the back of the official campus walk shirt. Register for Free.
- Follow along on Instagram @outofthedarknesscsus for updates and weekly challenges to support suicide prevention. We encourage you to share on your department's social media as well.
- Challenge your students, peers, community to join your team and donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Registration is free! Individuals who raise over $100 for your team will receive the official campus walk shirt via mail after the event. Your logo could be on the back to show your support for suicide prevention and reducing mental health stigma at Sac State.
- Join us on April 15, 2021, at 5:30 pm for the 10th Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk Experience event.
This is a call for all students, organizations, departments, faculty, staff, and community members to come together and not only remember and honor those whose lives have been lost to suicide but to take action to help raise awareness surrounding the topic of mental health and suicide so no one ever feels alone or afraid to seek support or services. Together, we can bring this topic out of the darkness and into the light to support our Hornet Family.
