The Department of World Languages & Literatures offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students. In order to be considered for scholarships, a student must be a continuing student or a new student who will be attending Sac State for the upcoming academic year. Lew Robinson Chinese Endowed Scholarship

The Lew Robinson Chinese Endowed Scholarship was created to encourage and provide support for students studying Chinese in the Department of World Languages and Literature in the College of Arts and Letters.

Criteria and Student Eligibility:

  • Minor in Chinese *any major university wide is acceptable
  • Eligible class levels: Junior and Senior
  • In Good Academic Standing with the University
  • Full-time enrollment required, with a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Preference given to a student who has already completed their year abroad in China or Taiwan.
  • Financial need may be considered but is not required

Margaret E. Lavezzo Memorial Italy Travel Scholarship

Scholarship award was created in the memory of Mrs. Margaret E. Lavezzo, who was a member of the graduating class of 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Anthropology, and a multiple subject credential in Education in 1993. This Scholarship is intended for students traveling to Italy for educational purposes.

Criteria and Student Eligibility:

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Majoring in World Languages and Literature
  • Minimum GPA 2.0 Enrolled in full time at time of award and at time of application
  • This scholarship is intended for students traveling to Italy for educational purposes.
  • Please include a brief essay/statement of your educational intentions and goal for the travel.

Thomas Swift Japanese Minor/Travel Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship fund was created to support students with a minor in Japanese language. Learn more about the late Dr. Swift and his works.

Criteria and Student Eligibility:

• Undergraduate: Sophomore, junior, or Senior
• Minimum GPA: 3.0
• Enrollment must be full time at time of award and at time of application
• Must be minoring in Japanese studies

World Languages & Cultures Undergraduate/Graduate Scholarship

The Sacramento State Alumni Association World Languages & Cultures Alumni Chapter awards one scholarship of $500 to a student attending Sacramento State and majoring or minoring in World Languages and Literatures. Applicants need not be related to members of the World Languages & Cultures Chapter, the Alumni Association or graduates of Sacramento State.

The members of the World Languages & Cultures Alumni Chapter and Alumni Association value the education and experiences gained in their years at Sacramento State. This scholarship was created out of the chapters desire to assist worthy students, with a career interest in languages, in attending this great University. The expectation is that the recipient will contribute to the success of the University and will graduate to be a productive member of society and an active Alumni Association member

Criteria and Student Eligibility:

  • Have a college grade point average of (a) 3.4 for continuing undergraduate or (b) 3.7 for graduate students
  • Be currently attending Sacramento State and be enrolled full-time
  • Have a declared major or minor in the Department of World Languages and Literatures
