My Lai and the American Experience

Read the transcript to "My Lai" in our assigned readings or watch the PBS documentary (a version is available on YouTube):

Then write a 300-word commentary on what your views are of our "American Experience" in Vietnam. What important lessons can we learn about our American experience in Vietnam? Finally, do a search on the internet on Hugh Thompson, an American helicopter pilot who was present at My Lai and discuss briefly why one person can behave and act like Lt. Calley and another like Hugh Thompson. 

FORMAT: Typed, single-spaced, 300 words minimum –maximum 400 words. Do a WORD COUNT and write the number of words at the bottom of your paper. Type the answers and write in clear and concise sentences with a coherent point of view and line of reasoning.

DUE: In the beginning of class, next week Tuesday--PRINT TWO (2) copies: one for Prof. & other for your classmate
