- I am the graduate advisor in
Spanish. Before formally applying to the
Spanish MA program or to the CSUS Office of Graduate Studies, all prospective
graduate students should contact me at ebaranowski@csus.edu for
a preliminary evaluation of their transcripts to see if they have met
all program course prerequisites. Go to this page for instructions: http://www.csus.edu/fl/spanish/Spanish.htm.
In addition, please note that you need a BA degree and 3.0 GPA in
your last 60 attempted semester units to be considered for the MA program in Spanish.
- Due to the state budget crisis, there will be no Spring 2010 admissions for the MA program in Spanish. The priority departmental application deadline for Fall 2010 is now November 15th, 2009, though some applications may be accepted after this date.
- MA exams for Fall 2009 will be held on two days: Monday, 11/16, and Wednesday, 11/18. Examinees should inform the graduate advisor of their four sub-areas and examiners no later than early October. They must also file an Application for Graduation with the Office of Graduate Studies before 10/1/2009.

They must also file an Application for Graduation with the Office of Graduate Studies before 2/1/2010. Important note: Professor Jorge Santana, now retired, will be administering MA exams in culture for the last time during the Spring 2010 semester.
- Advancement to Candidacy forms are due 10/1/2009 for the Spring 2010 semester. You cannot enroll in Spanish 500 (Culminating Experience) if the Office of Graduate Studies has not approved your candidacy, and I must sign the form first. Students already enrolled in SPAN 500 must also pay continuous enrollment every semester after their intial semester of enrollment in SPAN 500 if they do not finish their degree during that initial semester. Local students must take their exams no later than one semester after initial enrollment in SPAN 500 or they will be required to re-register for it (with graduate advisor approval).
- Also due to the CA state budget crisis, CSU faculty have agreed to the CSU administration's furlough proposal by which there will be 9 furlough days per semester for each faculty member. This equates to a 9.23% workload reduction and will be accompanied by a 9.23% reduction in pay. On furlough days--which I will indicate on this website on the "courses" page and on all course syllabi--faculty are not allowed to work in any capacity. CSU faculty agreed to the CSU's furlough proposal to help make up for massive budgets cuts enacted by the state legislature.

Summer 2009 MA Travel Study
