Course Description

Elementary French. Course focuses on the development of elementary linguistic skills, with emphasis on the spoken language. The relationship of the language to French civilization and culture is given special attention.

This is a 4 unit course. It meets four days a week. A lot of homework is given, but the course is fun and students do learn French! This course will provide the beginning foundation for developing the skill of understanding and communicating in French.

 Technology Requirements

Students will need an electronic mail account and computer access to the Web. All CSUS students enrolled in one or more units can create a SacLink account for electronic mail and Internet services. Although a home computer with a high speed modem running Firefox or Internet Explorer would be beneficial, students can use the Web from one of the campus student labs.

Computing Recommendations (minimum)

Pentium PC running Windows 98, Windows XP, or Macintosh compatible with System 9 or higher

128M RAM or higher

DSL - Cable Modem (Dial-up modem will not work for this class)

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or NetScape 5.0 (or higher), Safari recommended

SacLink Account

Word processing skills

Online class participation on the Web assignments and electronic discussions.

Computer Skills

Comfortable using the computer and browsing the Web, sizing windows, multi-tasking

Familiarity with SacLink or other Internet e-mail account

Word processing skills

Individual participation on the Web assignments

Ability to download and install software

Participate in electronic discussions, using WebCT

Other Technologies
Microphone/headset for voice recording and software to save file as mp3

CD player or drive, to play pronunciation master and to repeat

Successful Student Characteristics

Discipline to complete homework by deadlines; motivation to read, write,speak and participate fully in class activities; and time to devote approximately 12 hours a week to a 4-credit course.
