The campus police force is composed of 21 sworn officers who receive the same training as city and county peace officers throughout the state. Campus police patrol the campus and surrounding area 24 hours per day, and maintain a 24-hour police dispatch center. University Police can assist students with emergencies and non-emergencies (dead car batteries, vehicle lock-outs and other services) on a walk-in basis, 24 hours per day.
In an emergency, you can use any phone on campus to dial 911; to reach the campus police dispatch directly for emergency or non-emergency matters, call (916) 278-6851. Encourage your son or daughter to program the Sacramento State non-emergency number into his or her cell phone. (If a student calls 911 from a cell phone while on campus, the call will be routed to Sacramento-area 911 dispatch, which may take longer to respond than University Police.) Visit the Campus Police Website to learn more, or to access the campus public log of reported crimes.
