Strategic Planning Goals



  1. Goal: Bridge the Gap/Start the Relationship with Parents Earlier.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #1 - Enhance student learning and success.

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Participate in at least one event per semester to interact with parents of future hornets (Such as "Sac Pathways Family & Community Engagement Day," Admitted Student Receptions, Lassen Hall Open House, etc.)
    1. Engage/Interact with/present to at least 20 parents each semester from outside the Sac State Family
  2. Market the program and the university - work with Admissions and Outreach to pass out program materials at: campus tours, at regional events
    1. Give Admissions & Outreach 100 University Parent Guides



  1. Goal: Harvard Partnership Communications continue and grow in success.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #1 - Enhance student learning and success.

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Continue with similar model of parent engagement in Year 2 - will require asking for permission again from students once first year is complete
    1. Aim for 50% of students in treatment group to continue
  2. Ask 2015-16 students to participate and re-apply same treatment to group that opts in 50% of Year 1 treatment group will participate (because our outreach method will be less effective).



  1. Goal: Parent Council is 15-20 people, visible at campus events year-round in Sac State logo gear.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #3 - Engage the community by building eduring partnerships that strengthen and enrich the region.

Indicators of Acievement -

  1. Account for attrition (Lynne = 1, Linda = 2, Tremain = 3, Faydra = 4)
  2. Recruit new members at/before Orientation
    1. The total of 15 parent council members in 2015-16 would be the indicator
    2. in subsequent years, sustaining membership at the 15-20 person level would indicate achievement



  1. Goal: the parent Volunteer Network has 700-1,000 active members.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #3 - Engage the community by building enduring partnerships that strengthen and enrich the region.

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Define "active" volunteer as someone who attends an event, hosts an event, advises another parent. Volunteerism can be structured (i.e., hosting a table at the Career Center's Etiquette Dinner), or loose (i.e., talking with a parent who is worried about their student)
  2. The Program will provide at least one structured recurring volunteer opportunity per semester
  3. Track parent event attendance and engagement at each structured and loose opportunity
    1. Engage 20 parents of Sac State students per semester



  1. Goal: Modernize customer service to parents to be more effective and more efficient.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #3 - Engage the community by bulding enduring partnerships that strengthen and enrich the region.

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Establish a method to deal with "intake"
  2. Consistently use Excel to track parent calls and inquiries
  3. Establish a method to follow up and "close" a case
  4. Tally numbers Monthly
    1. Close 90% of cases within one week (or 5 business days) of initial contact with our program



  1. Goal: Events continue; add context for families to celevrate student success on road to graduation.

Goal Area in the Strategic Plan: #4 - Excel as a place to learn, work, live, & visit.

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Continue to host and test events with parents
    1. Family Weekend: Friday night Happy Hour - increase attendance by 20%
    2. Float Decorating: Increase parent participation by 10%
    3. Homecoming Tailgate: Increase participation by 5%
  2. Provide an engagement opportunity for parents/new event during Pring semester
    1. Get 100 parents in attendance
  3. Partner with EOP celebrations to invite and host parents as students are in year 2, 3, 4, 5



  1. Goal: Presidential Involvement/Leadership support

Indicators of Achievement -

  1. Get President to attend a Parent Council Metting or Program Event such as Move in Day Reception
