Policy, Protocol and Procedures Related to Student Deaths


Anyone who becomes aware of the death of a California State University, Sacramento (hereafter referred to as Sacramento State) student should contact the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (916-278-6060) as soon as possible. The Vice President for Student Affairs will verify that the death has occurred and will initiate appropriate procedures and protocols.  Myriad protocols are triggered when a student death occurs and each of these protocols are assigned to specific officials and/or University offices.   Only offices and officials charged with such responsibilities should carry them out. For a list of responsibilities and protocols please see the attached procedures. 


The procedures outlined here delineate the roles and responsibilities that should be assumed by individual faculty, staff, students, and various campus departments following the death of a currently enrolled Sacramento State student.
