Profile

Dr. Cindy Behmer is a prominent freelance oboist and educator based in Sacramento, California. Since relocating to Sacramento in 2013, Dr. Behmer has performed with the Reno Philharmonic, Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra, Stockton Symphony, Chamber Music Society of Sacramento, the Fresno Grand Opera, Fresno Philharmonic, Townsend and Stockton Operas, the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra, Merced Symphony, Schola Cantorum, Camerata Capistrano, and the Zion Chamber Orchestra.

Dr. Behmer teaches private oboe lessons and is also available for online instruction. Cindy served as oboist and English hornist with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra for several years while completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2011) at the University of Arizona under the tutelage of Dr. Neil Tatman. She held positions with the Tucson Chamber Artists Orchestra, the Tucson Pops Orchestra, Tucson Masterworks Chorale, St. Andrew’s Bach Society and concertized on several different chamber music series including St. Philip’s Friends of Music. Dr. Behmer concertized with her Tucson-based reed trio, Zephyrus Reed Trio and double-reed duo, Kontra-Cor Duo. Dr. Behmer has also pursued additional study with Thomas Stacy, Carolyn Hove, Dr. Lindabeth Binkley, and Paula Engerer.

Dr. Behmer maintains a large private oboe studio ranging in levels from beginner, through the young-advanced, to adult-amateur. Her students have held recurring positions with Regional and All-State honor bands and orchestra, have served as members of the Sacramento Youth Symphony, Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra, and have gone on to study oboe at the Curtis Institute of Music and other 4-year universities.

In addition to working as a freelance musician and educator, Dr. Behmer is a proud mother of two energetic children.
