Research Projects/Interests
Significant contributions to the field of policy and practice involving women and violence, stalking, sexual assault and corrections. Top research interests:
- Ethics and Corrections. Reform focusing on education and marketable job skills training (work) to reduce recidivism.
- Public-Private Partnerships. Systems theory application to improving and analyzing collaborative relationships to help reimagine corrections, education and global partnerships that will help marginalized women groups and widows. Forthcoming book on Widows and Revolutionary Traditions: Changing Societal Norms and Biases
- Social Media and Corrections Reform. Proposing to use public opinion on corrections reform and alignment with evidence in the literature. Influenced by travels to Canada and work with Canadians on "what works" in corrections.
Bio & Professional Associations
Dr. K. Garth-James, has served as a Director & Associate Professor of MPA Program & Center of Public Affairs, AP University. A lecturer for the California State University system for nearly 17 years, as well as a decade in politics (Governor's Office of Criminal Justice Planning), lobbyist, and policy advisor California State Senate (corrections, ethics, penal code committees). Contributions working with local, national (Department of Justice, Native American Programs), and international organizations on justice reform (VAWA, VOCA, Widows Protection), healthcare and education issues. Significant impact on public policy and programs for various institutions, including the US Embassy in London, Department of Defense, and US Department of Justice.
