Research Projects/Interests
I am interested in the evolution of magma as it travels from the source to the surface. In particular I am interested the process of magma mixing. I the texture and geochemistry of lavas to understand the source of the magma and the magmatic processes invovled in its evolution. I have studied volcanic system in Ecuador, Mexico, and northern California.
I am also interested in the application of geological techniques to archeological studies. I have been working on stone griding tools from the Teotihuacan Valley, Mexico to identify the source of the materials and examine production and trade patterns.
Recent Projects:
- Using diffision profiles across host-mafic enclave interfaces in lavas from Clear Lake to understand the timescale of magma mixing
- Field and textural studies of magma mixing processes at Chaos Crags, Lassen Volcanic National Park
- Determining the cause of a large gap in the volcanic front of the Mexican Volcanic Belt
- Tracing the fate of arsenic in weathered sulfides from Empire Mine
- Sourcing of stone grinding tools from Teotihuacan Valley, Mexico
- Using isotope geochemistry to understand the structure of the magmatic system at the Clear Lake volcanic field
