Research Interests

His research activities encompass competitive dynamics,  global strategic alliances, and M&A activities in the ICT industry. First,  he investigates how corporate strategic action portfolios, viewed as a bundle  of strategic alliance, M&A, divestiture, and internal development are  shaped in response to environmental changes such as deregulatory and  technological changes. His study ultimately looks at how action portfolios  affect firm-level performance.  Second,  he also examines the different alliance/M&A activities of major Asian  telecom operators as they pursue an international expansion strategy in a  highly competitive global telecom industry.   Recently, he is investigating the relationships between convergence and  competitive dynamics in the global information technology industry. From the  managerial and public policy standpoints, both regulators and managers will be  interested in how the policy/technology changes in industry landscape and firm  strategy interact with each other. He is trying to extend the scope of research  by looking into the relationships between different types of convergence  mechanism and competitive dynamics in the global information technology  industry from 2003 to 2008. He has published papers in the Review of Business  Research and International Journal of Strategic Management. He presented his  articles and the proceedings in the Academy of Management, Strategic Management  Society, Western Academy of Management, Industry Studies Association, and  International Council for Small Business World Conference.

He served as a consultant in the public and private areas.  He has worked with many organizations including Korea Telecom, SK Telecom  (mobile provider in Korea Institute of Information Technology Advancement  (government agency in the field of IT) in Korea, Media Futures Institute  (broadcasting and telecom policy consultancy) in Korea, and Kalba International  (Telecom Consultancy) in New Haven, CT. He is also worked as an overseas  research contributor for Korea Information Society Development Institute and  Media Futures Institute, writing research memo and trend analysis on a regular  basis.
