Grading

Considerations for grading:

Writing and Reporting

All stories will be graded as follows:
3 = Publishable as is (equal to an A)
2= Needs minor surgery (editing, tightening, word choice.) Equal to B
1= Needs major surgery (requires rewriting or is missing information). Equal to C
0= Needs CPR (form, structure, reporting) and is unacceptable for publication.

Story Format

Each story must be transmitted electronically to my e-mail foxs@csus.edu and by hard copy in class for credit. In the upper left corner of the document, each story should have
word count
your name
best phone contact numbers
date

Final Grading
• Submit assignments on time. Journalism is all about deadlines.

Turn assignments in at the beginning of class on the day they are due. However, it’s also about juggling competing deadlines and demands.

For this reason, I will be allow you two late papers with No Questions Asked (NQA). Staple the NQA coupons you receive in class to your late paper. You can turn in your late papers (including revisions) up to one week late. After that, I won’t accept them. After using those two coupons, I will not accept any late paper and you won’t get credit for completing the assignment. You MAY NOT use a NQA for the agency profile.
