No Class this week! Please complete the following assignment in place of our normal class.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:
- Correctly identify the zone and grid system used on a map.
- Locate points to the meter scale using UTM coordinates.

Homework: Answer the following questions about UTM and coordinate systems: 1) Name at least 3 coordinate systems.
2) What does UTM stand for, and how does the UTM coordinate system work (give a simple explanation of the discuss the datum, grid system, and method used to report northings and eastings, etc).
3) What zone are we in?
4) What does NAD 27 mean?
5) What is the location of Placer Hall, using UTM coordinates? Be as precise as you can. You will need to refer to the "Sacramento East" 7 1/2° sheet, located on a shelf on the lab room.
Please word-process your answers, and turn them in at the start of class in week 3.
