Quizzes

There will be quizzes every week except weeks - one (1) and fifteen (15). The quizzes will be taken from lecture, lab work, and textbook readings. The assigned readings in the text will be used for about half of the material for the quizzes. A chapter assigned for a given week must be read by the 1st lecture of that week. Quizzes will cover text material from the present week and occasionally, from previous weeks. The other half (approximately) of each quiz will cover lab material from the previous week.

These quizzes will be short, usually only a few questions. If you are present, you will always get at least one point for just putting your name on the page, so you are always better off to be present for a quiz, even if you do not know the material. There will be no make-up for quizzes, although a student may be excused from a quiz for medical or other extreme situations, provided these are documented. In that case the average of other quizzes will be used for the missed quiz.

Exams

There will be one mid-term examination during the semester, and one comprehensive final exam. The exams will cover material from lecture, lab and the textbook. The dates for the exams are listed in the lecture schedule of the printed syllabus or in the schedule page for the course. Be very careful to follow this schedule, as missed exams cannot be made up without prior agreement.

(Sample exams are available on the resource page and in the Reserved Book section of the library under CSC001).

Note

All quizzes and exams will be open notes not open book. No photocopies of the text are allowed. However, you may use printouts of the assignments and lab work that you complete.
