Introduction

  • What kinds of foods do you eat? Do you always make healthy choices? What are healthy choices? How many of the five food groups do you eat at each meal?

Task

  • Your best friend in the whole world is Johnny, a slightly overweight boy on your soccer team. You are a nutrition expert who has been chosen by Johnny’s parents to analyze Johnny’s diet to see where he needs to improve his food choices.

Process

·      Step 1 You will read and learn about the Five Food Groups.

·      Step 2 You will view a day in the life of Johnny……food only, please!

·      Step 3 On Johnny’s diet page, you will cross out all the foods that you think are unhealthy and replace them with healthy choices. (HINT: Use Healthy Eating For Kids link in Resources.

·      Find healthy food images on the internet. Cut and Paste them onto the Johnny’s New and Improved Diet Plan. (HINT: Use Healthy Food Images in Resources.

Evaluation

·      Rubric for Completion of Johnny’s New and Improved Diet Plan:

·       Student must cross out all inappropriate unhealthy food choices

·       Student must replace inappropriate food choices with healthy substitutions.

·       Student must add at least five images onto the diet document.

Conclusion

  • Wow! Johnny and his parents are so impressed! You have effectively reorganized Johnny’s diet and have advised him on the healthier food choices that will make him a much more successful soccer player.
