During any one academic year there shall be a maximum of eight class period convocations for which classes may be cancelled at the discretion of the instructor. Students should not be penalized for attending a convocation if their classes are not dismissed.

Recommendations on topics, speakers, and programming for convocations shall be communicated through the Executive Committee of the Senate to the University President, with whom rests final responsibility for authorizing convocations.

Such convocations shall be staggered so that no more than one scheduled class in any given hour is cancelled during any single semester. In addition to the above, special convocations may be called by the President, either on personal initiative, upon recommendation by the Faculty Senate, or by recommendation by the ASI Board. Classes may also be dismissed for these convocations.
