Policy Statement: Sacramento State is not equipped and does not accept financial responsibility for transportation of sick or injured individuals from the campus to facilities elsewhere in the community.  In the case of illness or injury occurring to a student on campus, Police Department personnel may transport the student from the site to the Student Health Center if the student’s condition makes such action appropriate.  Non-students shall be directed to their own treating physician. If an emergency exists, the officer at the scene will make the decision to call an ambulance for transportation of a student or non-student to a hospital at the individual’s expense.

Police Department personnel responding to an emergency call on campus during regular hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday) may consult with Student Health Center personnel when there is concern about the decision regarding transportation of the student. 

Members of staff or faculty who provide transportation of sick or injured students to an off-campus destination do so at their own risk.  The University does not provide liability coverage for such activities.

Who the Policy applies to: Sacramento State students, Police Department personnel, faculty, staff and the Student Health Center personnel.

Why the policy is necessary: To clarify the University’s longstanding practice of transporting sick or injured individuals.
