About Honors Program
General Education Honors Program
The General Education Honors Program at Sacramento State offers highly motivated students a challenging, innovative, fun, and rewarding learning experience. Unlike traditional Honors courses or AP/IB courses, our approach to learning is not about making things harder or overloading students with material, but studying smarter in a collaborative, fun, and supportive environment.
Through small class sizes averaging about 25 students, students experience classroom settings which promote discussion, community, critical thinking, and exposure to global perspectives and ideas. Our students also enjoy the advantages of priority registration and special study abroad, scholarship, and internship opportunities. Additionally, students have access to a dedicated social lounge with a kitchenette and a variety of weekly social events.
The Honors Program is open to incoming freshman and transfer students. If you are a transfer student, please look here for our Minor in Global Engagement and Leadership.
Current students: Please check your Cohort's Canvas Page to find the latest program information, events, and resources.
Student Testimonial
“As an incoming student to Sacramento State, you may be wondering if the stress of being in the Honors Program is worth it? As a previously anxious freshman who began and completed the Honors Program, I am proud to express that it is most definitely worth it.”-Ihsan Imthiyaz (B.S. Exercise Science 2024)
