Planning Your Grade

Even though this course follows the Learning vs. Instructional Paradigm, students still expect and deserve a grade! But because there are so many small-scale assignments in this course, students are often unclear about how the points for all the assignments will add up.

Below are my recommendations for the scores you must obtain to earn a C ("Developing"), a B ("Developed") and an A ("Proficient") in the class. Students with tight schedules who cannot complete all the course requirements should use these recommendations to focus their preparation time for the course.

IMPORTANT: The adjectices I attach to each grade sum up your current ability level with regard to the primary skill of analyzing historical records of past practices, with an eye to recommending adaptations that could be made to similar contemporary practices.

Recommended Minimum Work for a "C" Grade ("Developing") ( > 700 points):

  1. PASSING GRADE on FOUR (4) out of the six (6) TRAs [or high scores on three (3)]
    [ 4 x 14/20 points for COMBINED individual + team = 56 points out of a possible 100]
  2. attendance at, bringing homework to & active participation (as measured by Peer Evaluation) in
FIFTEEN (15) out of the eighteen (18) Application Exercises (270 points total),
  3. PASSING GRADE on FOUR (4) out of the six (6) End-of-Unit Challenges [or high scores on three (3)]
    [ 4 x 30/40 points (COMBINED individual + team activity) = 120 points out of a possible 200]
  4. completed worksheet, peer review & JUST PASSING GRADE on the TWO BEST
of the three (3) Practice Instructions Project (75 + 75 points, 150 points out of a possible 250)
