Sacramento State Placer Center

The Sacramento State Placer Center is the future site of a 300-acre academic center located in western Placer County approximately thirty miles northeast of Sacramento State.

About the Placer Center

Ensuring Prosperity for Generations

Upon the completion of the first phase of development, the center will accommodate more than 1,500 students. When finished, the site is expected to serve the academic needs of more than 12,000 students from both Sacramento State and Sierra College.

The Placer Center allows Sacramento State to address higher education needs in Placer County while collaborating with Sierra College on a new model of higher education.

Meeting the Needs of a Growing Community

Since the mid-20th century, Placer County has experienced tremendous growth, its population increasing an average of 40% every decade. The population explosion dramatically increased the county’s education needs, with 84,000 school-aged (K-12) children living there. Currently, 5,000 students travel out of the county to pursue higher education and face the burden of increasingly longer commutes.

As an extension of Sacramento State, the center will provide hands-on learning opportunities and community-engaged learning. Students will work within the Placer community to obtain knowledge and pursue research. This hands-on method deepens the learning experience and benefits the surrounding community.
