Receiving Donations

In Kind Gifts to the University

Departments must coordinate with University Development to ensure that the campuses in kind gift acceptance requirements are met and the donation is properly acknowledged with appropriate authorization signatures. University Development is responsible for itemizing and obtaining the fair market value of donated gifts and reporting this information to the appropriate Departments, Property Management Office, and Accounting Services.

Departments considering accepting gifts of properly from donors should contact University Advancement for guidance regarding gift procedures.

Making Donations

From the University

Under certain circumstances and with appropriate approvals, property that is deemed suitable for donation may be donated as appropriate for the item to education institutions, public agencies, and non-profit organizations. All University property donations must be processed through the Property Management Office. For all donations, a copy of the non-profit organization's 501 (c) 3 certification is to be obtained and retained.

Property that may be donated is limited to items that are:

  • No longer needed or wanted by any campus department, with fair market values
  • Have exceeded their useful life

All donations MUST be channeled through the Property Management Office and approved by the Sacramento State Property Board.

The Property Manual prescribes specific methods to be used in disposing of excess university-owned property.

Requesting Donations

The University encourages requests for donations from eligible educational institutions, public agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Process

  • Submit a letter of request on your non-profit organization's letterhead specifying the type and quantity of items desired for donation. Attach copy of the non-profit organization's 501(c)3 certification.
