Program Overview

Sacramento State is proud to be collaborating with the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA) to establish a clear path for historically underrepresented students to pursue a higher education degree and gain valuable leadership skills. Below are some frequently asked questions that will help guide you and your students to success in their academic journey.

Partnership Benefits

As part of this new partnership, students can receive these priority benefits to empower them as they pursue academic excellence.

Students attending one of our partner CAAASA high schools who meet the First Year Requirements, as well as the additional requirements below are eligible for priority admission:

  • Students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or The California Dream Act Application (CADA)
  • Students must submit the CSU application to Sacramento State during the application priority filing period or any regular admissions cycle windows.
  • Admitted Students must attend the University's mandatory orientation program prior to enrollment.

Students at partner campuses are eligible for guaranteed admissions to the Black Honors College as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • They must be admitted to the university and must complete all application requirements to the CSU.
  • They must have a 3.8 GPA (students with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.79 will be given priority admission consideration for the Black Honors College)
  • They must demonstrate a commitment to learning about Black history, life, culture, and contributions.

Sacramento State will work with your participating schools and district to communicate these benefits to its members and provide up-to-date information to CAAASA about various recruitment events, priority admissions updates, developments in programs and support, and Black Honors College offerings.

As part of this collaboration, CAAASA will provide Sacramento State with an annual list of partner schools that qualify for the Priority Admissions program.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The Priority Admission Program is a partnership between Sacramento State and CAAASA member campuses to provide eligible students with a clear and supported path to college admission. Students who meet established academic requirements are guaranteed conditional admission to Sacramento State.

All students—whether eligible for automatic admission or not—must complete the Cal State Apply application.

There is an application fee for the university application on CalStateApply, but students who meet income-based criteria will automatically receive a fee waiver through Cal State Apply.

Students follow the normal Sacramento State enrollment process:

  1. Be admitted
  2. Submit the Intent to Enroll (no fee or deposit required)
  3. Register for New Student Orientation
  4. Attend Orientation
