Interested in helping new transfer and first-year students as they start Sac State?

Be part of the O-Team! New Student Orientation has multiple in-person summer positions. You can join us as an Orientation Leader, Reservations Specialist, or Reservation Coordinator. Check out the details below and look for updates during September.

Orientation Leader

Orientation Leaders assist in the transition of new students and supporters to Sac State through presentations, academic advising, and creating a welcoming environment. The New Orientation Leader application is available on Handshake and will close on October 31st at 5 pm.

Orientation Leader Application

Benefits of being an Orientation Leader:

  • Develop and improve leadership skills
  • Network with campus departments and faculty
  • Connect with new students and fellow orientation staff
  • Enhance public speaking skills
  • Help new students feel welcomed to Sac State


  • Be a current Sac State student- must be enrolled during the spring semester
  • Have a minimum 2.7 GPA
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Have a positive attitude
  • If hired, must be able to enroll in a three-unit class on Wednesday nights from 5:30 - 8:20 pm


  • Competitive Salary: Currently under review 2023. Summer 2022 salary was $15.50

Returning Orientation Leader Application

Returning Orientation Leaders are knowledgeable representatives of Sac State. They help introduce new students and supporters to the university while also aid in mentoring first-time Orientation Leaders. The Returning Orientation Leader application will be available on Handshake mid-September.

Reservation Coordinator Application

The Reservation Coordinator is responsible for overseeing student and parent reservations, coordinates student/leader groups and room assignments, troubleshoots problems during check-in, and answers phone calls and emails. This position is part-time November thru May and increases to full-time after finals week. The Reservation Coordinator application will be available on Handshake beginning October 1st.

Reservation Specialist Application

The Reservation Specialist position is an opportunity to work in the New Student Orientation Office, preparing orientation materials, answering the phone, emails and assisting students with their reservations. This position is part-time March thru May and increases to full-time after finals week. The Reservation Specialist application will be available on Handshake in mid-January.
