Reporting Clery Act Incidents

Clery Act Incident Reporting Options

If this is an emergency or if the reported incident constitutes a threat to the safety of the campus community at Sacramento State, call the Sacramento State Police Department immediately at (916) 278-6000.

One important purpose of the Clery Act is to encourage the accurate collection of campus crime statistics in order to promote and enhance campus crime awareness and campus safety through reliable statistical crime reporting. Reporting crime helps create a safer campus community by enabling the institution to improve prevention and response systems, and can also help survivors of crimes begin the process of healing.

Reporting to Sacramento State Police Department

Sacramento State encourages the campus community to report all Clery Act incidents to the Sacramento State Police Department at (916) 278-6000.

Reporting to a Campus Security Authority (CSA)

Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) are individuals designated to receive reports of crimes that occur on our campus. CSAs must promptly report allegations of Clery crimes that occurred within Clery Geography to the appropriate authorities, which may include the Sacramento State Police Department, Office for Equal Opportunity (Title IX), Student Conduct, or Housing authorities (such as RAs or FDAs).

Examples of CSAs include but are not limited to:

  • Members of the Sacramento State Police Department, including Community Service Officers (CSOs)
  • Housing Resident Advisors (RAs) and Front Desk Advisors (FDAs)
  • Members of the Office for Equal Opportunity (Title IX)
  • Athletics Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Coaching Specialist, Student Athlete Mentors, and Athletic Trainers
  • College Deans and Associate Deans, including the Dean of Students
  • Director of Student Conduct
  • Faculty acting in the capacity of advisor to a student group or club, or who oversee students during a field trip
  • Head of student-oriented centers or programs, such as the PRIDE Center, Women's Resource Center, or Dreamer Center Programs

Regarding Confidentiality

Occasionally, a person may want to seek confidential assistance. For example, if you are a survivor of a sexual assault and wish to seek help, medical or otherwise, without contact with law enforcement, you can confidentially report the incident to someone who is not a CSA.

Sacramento State works with a designated Victim Advocate through our partnership with WEAVE. Students or employees may seek confidential assistance with our Victim Advocate by calling (916) 278-5850.

Students may also make a confidential report to counselors in Student Health, Counseling, & Wellness Services, and can do so by calling (916) 278-6461.

If you choose to report to a CSA, please keep in mind they cannot guarantee confidentiality. However, they can help connect you with someone to whom you can make a confidential report.

Anonymous Phone Line

Victims or witnesses may report crimes on an anonymous voluntary, confidential basis to the Sacramento State Police Department by calling the Anonymous phone line at (916) 278-7245 or other available confidential reporting options.
